TASTE OF MACEDONIA AT FRUIT LOGISTICA 2013
 In cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water, USAID AgBiz Program supported 10 Macedonian companies to participate in Fruit Logistica 2013, the leading international fresh produce trade fair, in Berlin, Germany from February 6 to 8. The companies Turan, GD Tikves, Agrolozar, Permindeks, Ksenos, Eko Oaza Samandov, Agro Kalem, Zito, Fruta Grozd and Badzo exhibited at the joint stand under the name "Taste of Macedonia".  This is the sixth year USAID's AgBiz Program has supported Macedonian fresh produce companies to participate in Fruit Logistica....

The Australian apple harvest got underway in mid January in the Riverland, Southern Australia with the Gala apples, while in Tasmania the harvest is just about to start.

Garry Langford, from APAL said the growing season has been good but some very hot weather in the middle of January caused some damage in Victoria. "We are used to hot temperatures and it won't affect the overall volumes which will be just under 300,000 tonnes, around the same as last year."

The first variety harvested is Gala, after that it will be Granny Smiths, Golden and Red Delicious, Cripps Pink and Sundowner...

According to a survey from Ipsos, Pink Lady is now the best known apple brand among European consumers.

Australasian fresh produce group Freshmax has announced it is partnering with Nelson-based apple and pear marketer Energie Produce.
In a further sign of consolidation on New Zealand's apple export scene, the two companies will operate to deliver as one from the 2014 season, a move the partners expect to deliver benefits for growers and customers alike.
"We warmly welcome the Energie team of Ken Tippler and Nadine Tunley to Freshmax," said Snow Hardy, Freshmax's general manager of global pipfruit.
